Beginning Blacksmithing

You will have the opportunity to develop foundational skills in the historic art of blacksmithing!

All tools will be provided as you learn basic traditional blacksmithing techniques, terminology, safety, fire control and artistic embellishments.

YOU will be working with fire.

You need to wear a shirt & pants of cotton and leather boots.

Long-sleeved shirt is preferred.

NO synthetic or polyester clothing should be worn.

Bring: Eye and ear protection. OSHA approved safety glasses is a must. Water Bottle or Jug

The class is designed for up to 6 students with preventative COVID habits practiced.

Specialized classes in tool making, artistic forms, stylized metal manipulation, decorative candle holders, hooks and more will be offered in the near future. Students will have to have taken the beginning blacksmith class to join the specialized classes or have the instructor’s consent.

Opportunity!! After successfully completing the Beginning Blacksmithing class, you will be able to volunteer at Pioneer Village in Cameron, WI in the blacksmith shop to continue developing your style, work on your own projects or create items to be sold in the village’s gift shop!
